Das Debüt­al­bum ​„Pod“ der ame­ri­ka­ni­schen Alter­na­tive-Rock-Band The Bree­ders erschien 1990 und wurde von Steve Albini pro­du­ziert. Es zeich­net sich durch sei­nen rohen, mini­ma­lis­ti­schen Sound und die ein­zig­ar­tige Mischung aus Noise-Rock, Grunge und Indie-Pop aus. Gegrün­det von Kim Deal (Pixies) und Tanya Donelly (Thro­wing Muses), ent­wi­ckelte die Band mit die­sem Album einen eigen­stän­di­gen Stil, der spä­ter mit ​„Last Splash“ (1993) auch kom­mer­zi­el­len Erfolg fand. ​„Pod“ erhielt viel Kri­ti­ker­lob und beein­flusste zahl­rei­che Musi­ker, dar­un­ter Kurt Cobain, der es als eines sei­ner Lieb­lings­al­ben bezeich­nete. Ein High­light des Albums ist der Song ​„Hap­pi­ness Is A Warm Gun“. Er ist eine Cover­ver­sion des gleich­na­mi­gen Beat­les-Songs von ​„The White Album“ (1968). The Bree­ders inter­pre­tie­ren das Stück auf ihre eigene Art – mit einer düs­te­ren, fast trä­gen Atmo­sphäre und Kim Deals mar­kan­tem Gesang. Die redu­zierte Instru­men­tie­rung und der raue, unge­schlif­fene Sound ver­lei­hen dem Song eine unheim­li­che Inten­si­tät, die sich deut­lich von der Ori­gi­nal­ver­sion unterscheidet.
