Die besten Alben eines Jahres gibt es natürlich nicht – die Auswahl fällt immer sehr subjektiv aus. 

Wel­ches sind die wich­tigs­ten Pop-Alben des Jah­res 2023? Die Ant­wort fällt je nach Quelle sehr unter­schied­lich aus. Ich habe da so meine eigene Mei­nung – und die vie­len ande­ren Ver­öf­fent­li­chun­gen zu die­sem Thema sehen das auch wie­der ganz unter­schied­lich. Ver­gleicht man die Bes­ten­lis­ten jedoch mit­ein­an­der, wird man aller­dings auch fest­stel­len, dass in den vie­len Top-50-Lis­ten so einige Nen­nun­gen immer wie­der auf­tau­chen: boy­ge­nius, ANOHNI and the John­sons, Lana Del Rey, Mit­ski, Sofia Kour­te­sis und Caro­line Pol­a­chek – um nur einige zu nennen. 

Meine eige­nen Top 10 fal­len dabei sicher­lich aus dem Rah­men. Ich habe weder die Res­sour­cen noch die Fach­kennt­nis, alle Neu­ver­öf­fent­li­chun­gen des Jah­res zu hören und zu bewer­ten. Ich habe ein­fach die Alben auf­ge­lis­tet, die mir im Laufe des Jah­res am meis­ten Spaß gemacht haben. Die Plat­zie­rung ist dabei zweit­ran­gig und auch ein biß­chen willkürlich. 

Meine Top 10 aus 2023

  1. SQÜRL — Sil­ver Haze
    Ein apo­ka­lyp­ti­sches Album mit dyna­mi­schen Instru­men­tals, rohen Droh­nen­riffs und tol­len Gastmusiker*innen.
  2. Swans — The Beggar
    Die Schwäne bewei­sen ein­mal mehr, dass sie keine „nor­male“ Rock­band sind.
  3. Culk — Gene­ra­tion Maxi­mum
    Legt nach dem über­ra­gen­den zwei­ten Album „Zer­streuen Über Euch“ noch mal ’ne Schippe drauf.
  4. Algiers - Shook
    Ein Album vol­ler fri­scher und auf­re­gen­der Musik, wie es wahr­schein­lich in nächs­ter Zeit nicht so schnell wie­der eines geben wird.
  5. PJ Har­vey — I Inside The Old Year Dying
    Mit ihrem zehn­ten Stu­dio­al­bum fin­det die eng­li­sche Sin­ger-Song­wri­te­rin wie­der zu alter Stärke.
  6. Bene­fits — Nails
    Ein wüten­des, lär­mi­ges Album, abso­lut unge­wöhn­lich und anstrengend.
  7. Anohni and the John­sons — My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross
    Nicht nur die ent­waff­nende, ent­rückte Stimme von Anohni macht die­ses Album beson­ders und hörenswert.
  8. Kerala Dust — Vio­let Drive
    Der ideale Sound­track für eine lange nächt­li­che Autofahrt.
  9. Divide and Dis­solve — Sys­te­mic
    Wun­der­bar harte Gitar­ren­riffs gepaart mit unend­lich geloop­ten Saxo­phone-Sounds und bru­ta­len Drumsets.
  10. Yo La Tengo — This Stu­pid World
    Sie sind und blei­ben meine unan­ge­foch­te­nen Indie-Lieblinge…
